A Life Committed to Making Knowledge Accessible to All

Prof. Rei Towet Kesis serves as the Founding Principal and Vice Chancellor of Kamagambo University — Kenya's 90th university, recently granted a Letter of Interim Authority by His Excellency President William Ruto. A man driven by the conviction that God's word and scholarly knowledge should never be the preserve of a few, Prof. Kesis has made it his lifelong mission to simplify complex ideas so that even the youngest child and the least educated can understand.

"My continuous worry, always, is: was it simple enough for everybody?"

Prof. Kesis currently leads Kamagambo University as its Founding Principal and Vice Chancellor. Under his leadership, the institution recently achieved a historic milestone — securing a Letter of Interim Authority from the President of Kenya on 15 September 2026 at Kisumu State Lodge, formally transitioning from Kamagambo Adventist Teachers' College into an autonomous private university under the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

His academic journey is both distinguished and deeply rooted in the Adventist tradition. Previously, Prof. Kesis served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton (UEAB). His service at UEAB was extensive and varied — he held the roles of Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor, University Chaplain, Dean of Men, and Associate Chaplain, giving him a panoramic understanding of what it takes to lead an Adventist institution of higher learning.

Prof. Kesis is an ordained Pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and an Associate Professor of Applied Theology and Religious Studies. His pastoral heart and scholarly mind work in tandem: he preaches, teaches, and writes with a singular focus on clarity and accessibility.

An Award-Winning Author and Prolific Communicator

Beyond the classroom and the pulpit, Prof. Kesis is an award-winning author. His published books include Nuggets to Live By and Building Blocks for Life Book 1 — works that reflect his gift for distilling profound truths into everyday language. He is also a prolific blogger at reikesis.com and a content creator across YouTube, TikTok, and other platforms, extending his teaching ministry to digital spaces where young people and a broader audience can encounter the message of faith and reason.

He is an Endorsed Chaplain, continuing a ministry that spans church congregations, university campuses, and now the leadership of a growing university. His endorsement as a chaplain speaks to the quality and impact of his pastoral care and counseling.

Why Kamagambo University

For Prof. Kesis, Kamagambo University represents more than an academic institution — it is the fulfillment of a vision he carried for years: a Seventh-day Adventist university rooted in the Kamagambo Mission complex in Rongo, Migori County, offering wholistic Christian education that nurtures the mental, spiritual, physical, and social dimensions of every student. Under his leadership, the university now offers certificate, diploma, and degree programmes across Education, Business, and Theology, with three newly approved bachelor's degree programmes at the heart of its new university status.

As Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kesis brings together decades of theological scholarship, administrative experience at the highest levels of an established Adventist university, pastoral sensitivity, and a communicator's gift for making the complex simple. His leadership positions Kamagambo University to deliver on its founding promise: quality education guided by Christian and professional values, accessible to all.
