Research at Kamagambo
Kamagambo’s research supports scholarship in education, business, theology and community health, with a deliberate bias toward work that is useful to the region it sits in. President Ruto’s charge to the university on the day it received its Letter of Interim Authority was precise on this point: strengthen research capacity, and make sure the work produces practical, society-benefiting solutions.
Research themes
- Wholistic Christian education models in rural Kenya — how the four-dimensional Adventist model performs in under-resourced rural schools, and what transfers to the national system.
- Teacher formation and the Competency Based Curriculum — drawing on nearly a century of teacher training at Kamagambo to ask what actually makes a competent teacher under CBC.
- Entrepreneurship training and graduate employability — whether embedding enterprise in degree programmes measurably changes what graduates do in their first three years.
- Faith integration in professional practice — how values formation shows up in the working conduct of teachers, managers and ministers.
- Community health and preventive care — outreach through the campus dispensary and the health needs of the surrounding villages.
- Adventist history and heritage in East Africa — Kamagambo’s own archive, reaching back to the 1912 mission station, is a primary source on the region’s educational history.
Student research
Final-year students in every school complete a supervised research project. The library supports literature searching, referencing and research methods, and completed work is deposited in the institutional collection where later cohorts can build on it.
Research and the path to a full charter
Research capacity is one of the areas the Commission for University Education examines as an institution moves from a Letter of Interim Authority toward a full charter. Building a documented record of supervised, published and applied research is therefore not an academic ornament at Kamagambo — it is part of the work of becoming a fully chartered university.
