Our Mission, Vision and Statement of Faith

Kamagambo University exists to provide quality mental, spiritual, physical and social education guided by Christian and professional values. That four-part formula is not a slogan bolted onto the prospectus — it is the Adventist philosophy of education, it is written on the university crest, and it decides how courses are taught, how the campus runs and what the institution counts as success.

Mission

To provide quality wholistic Christian education — mental, spiritual, physical and social — that develops competent professionals and people of character who serve church, community and nation.

Vision

To be a centre of academic excellence and Christian formation in East Africa, known for graduates who are as trusted for their integrity as they are respected for their competence.

Core values

• Wholeness. The mind, the body, the spirit and the community are educated together, not in competition.
• Integrity. Honest scholarship, honest accounts, honest dealing — taught by example and expected of everyone.
• Service. Learning is for the benefit of others. Every programme carries a practical, community-facing component.
• Excellence. Faith is no excuse for mediocrity. Academic standards are held, examined and defended.
• Respect. Students of every faith and background are welcome and are treated as equals.

What “wholistic” means in practice

The four dimensions show up in the timetable, not just the mission statement. Mental formation is the academic programme itself, taught to the standards of the Commission for University Education. Spiritual formation runs through weekly worship, Sabbath services and chaplaincy, which are open to all and compulsory for none. Physical formation covers sport, recreation and health education, supported by the campus dispensary. Social formation is built through student leadership, clubs, community outreach and the ordinary business of living together well.

Statement of faith

Kamagambo University is a Seventh-day Adventist institution and upholds the 28 Fundamental Beliefs of the world Seventh-day Adventist Church. Among the convictions that most directly shape the life of the campus are:

• The authority of Scripture as the written Word of God and the standard for faith and practice.
• The Trinity — God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
• Salvation through Jesus Christ, received by grace through faith.
• The seventh-day Sabbath, observed from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, which shapes the university calendar and the weekly rhythm of campus life.
• Wholeness and health as a stewardship of the body.
• The second coming of Christ and the hope that orients Christian service.

A word on who is welcome

Kamagambo is unapologetically Adventist in identity and entirely open in admission. Students of every faith and of none are admitted on academic merit alone, are never required to adopt the university’s beliefs, and are expected only to respect the community’s standards while they are here. Many of the institution’s most distinguished alumni came to Kamagambo from other traditions.
