School of Education
The School of Education offers the Bachelor of Education in Arts, one of the three degree programmes approved when Kamagambo received its Letter of Interim Authority on 15 September 2026. It is the direct heir of the teacher training school licensed here in 1928 — the oldest continuously operating teacher training institution in Kenya.
Why study teaching at Kamagambo
Kamagambo has been making teachers for close to a century. E. R. Warland obtained the licence to train teachers in 1928; twenty-three had graduated by 1929, and the line has not broken since. Schools across Nyanza and the wider country are staffed by people trained on this campus, and that network is what a Kamagambo education degree plugs you into.
Bachelor of Education in Arts (4 years)
A four-year degree preparing secondary school teachers in arts and humanities subjects, built around the Competency Based Curriculum now in force in Kenyan schools.
- Entry requirement: KCSE mean grade C+ with at least C in English and Mathematics, or a relevant diploma with credit.
- Duration: four years, full time; in-service mode available for serving teachers.
- Core study: educational psychology, curriculum studies, educational measurement and evaluation, philosophy and sociology of education, guidance and counselling, and two teaching subjects.
- Teaching practice: supervised school placements that put theory in front of a real class, assessed by university supervisors.
- Graduates work as: secondary school teachers, curriculum support officers, education administrators, teacher trainers, and in education programmes at NGOs and faith-based organisations.
Diploma and certificate pathways
For students who do not yet meet degree entry requirements, Kamagambo runs diploma programmes in Teacher Education and Secondary Teacher Education (2–3 years, KCSE mean grade C−), and one-year foundation certificates. Diploma holders with credit can progress to the degree.
Study while you teach
The In-Service mode — with April, September and November intakes — exists for serving teachers who cannot leave their posts. Sessions are scheduled so that a working teacher can upgrade qualifications without resigning. Regular intakes run in January, May and September.
What makes it Adventist
Teacher formation here is explicitly moral as well as technical. The programme treats a teacher as someone who shapes character, not only transmits syllabus, and integrates the university’s wholistic philosophy — mental, spiritual, physical and social development — into how classroom practice is taught.
