The biggest story in Kamagambo’s recent history is its admission into Kenya’s university system. On 15 September 2026, President William Ruto granted the institution a Letter of Interim Authority at the Kisumu State Lodge, making Kamagambo the country’s 90th university and the third operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kenya.

What happens next
A Letter of Interim Authority is a beginning, not a destination — a point President Ruto made explicitly at the ceremony. Over the period ahead the university will build out its governing bodies, academic staff, library and research capacity under the continuing supervision of the Commission for University Education, working toward a full charter.
