School of Theology and Religious Studies
The School of Theology offers the Bachelor of Arts in Theology with Entrepreneurship, one of the three degree programmes approved when Kamagambo received its Letter of Interim Authority on 15 September 2026. It prepares pastors, chaplains, teachers of religious education and ministry leaders — and equips them to be financially self-supporting, which is why entrepreneurship is built into the degree.
Bachelor of Arts in Theology with Entrepreneurship (4 years)
- Entry requirement: KCSE mean grade C (plain); divinity and ministry certificates are considered.
- Duration: four years, full time.
- Core study: Old and New Testament studies, biblical languages, systematic theology, church history, Adventist heritage and doctrine, homiletics (preaching), pastoral care and counselling, mission and evangelism, and religious education.
- Entrepreneurship track: enterprise planning, stewardship and financial management, and project development for ministry and community work.
- Graduates work as: pastors, chaplains, teachers of Christian religious education, church administrators, missionaries, and leaders of faith-based development organisations.
Why ministry and enterprise together
Pastoral ministry in East Africa is often bivocational, and church-planting frequently depends on a leader who can also run a small enterprise or manage a project budget. Pairing theology with entrepreneurship is a realistic response to that: it produces ministers who can sustain themselves and their congregations, and who understand money well enough to handle a church’s finances honestly.
Taught by a theologian who leads the university
The university’s Founding Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rei Towet Kesis, is an ordained Adventist minister and was an Associate Professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton, where he also served as University Chaplain and Deputy Vice-Chancellor. His stated conviction — that Scripture and scholarship should never be the preserve of a few, and that the test of teaching is whether it was “simple enough for everybody” — sets the tone for this school.
Diploma and certificate pathways
A Diploma in Theology (2–3 years, KCSE mean grade C−) and a Certificate in Theology (one year, KCSE mean grade D+ or demonstrated prior learning) provide entry routes for students called to ministry who do not yet meet degree requirements.
