Seventh-day Adventist Beliefs

Kamagambo University is owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and upholds the 28 Fundamental Beliefs of the world Adventist Church. Students are never required to share those beliefs, but knowing them explains a good deal about how this campus works — why the week ends at sunset on Friday, why the dining hall looks the way it does, and why health and education are treated as expressions of faith.

The convictions that shape campus life

• The Bible. Scripture is held to be the written Word of God and the standard by which teaching and conduct are measured.
• The Trinity. One God — Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
• Salvation in Christ. Received by grace through faith, not earned by effort or merit.
• The seventh-day Sabbath. Observed from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday as a day of rest, worship and fellowship. It is the single belief that most visibly shapes the university timetable.
• Wholeness and health. The body is treated as a stewardship, which is why nutrition, exercise, rest and temperance are part of campus life rather than private preferences.
• The Second Coming. The expectation of Christ’s return, which orients Adventist service and mission.
• The church as a serving community. Faith is expressed through education, health care and practical service — the reason Adventists run schools, universities and hospitals worldwide.

Why an Adventist church runs universities

The Seventh-day Adventist Church operates one of the largest Protestant education systems in the world, on the conviction that education develops the whole person — mental, spiritual, physical and social — and prepares people for service rather than merely for employment. Kamagambo is the third Adventist private university in Kenya, after the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton and the Adventist University of Africa at Ongata Rongai.

What this means if you are not an Adventist

It means you are welcome, you will be admitted on academic merit alone, you will not be asked to change your beliefs, and you will be expected to respect the standards of the community while you are here — the same expectation the institution places on its own members.
