President Ruto Grants Kamagambo University Letter of Interim Authority
President William Ruto presented the Letter of Interim Authority on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, at the Kisumu State Lodge during his development tour of the Nyanza region. The recognition formally paves the way for the institution to operate as a university as it progresses under its new status, marking the most significant milestone in Kamagambo's history.
Founded as a teachers' college and long regarded as a centre of excellence in teacher training and higher education, Kamagambo will now run under the leadership of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. With the approval of the Commission for University Education (CUE), the university can admit students to three inaugural degree programmes: the Bachelor of Education in Arts, the Bachelor of Arts in Theology with Entrepreneurship, and the Bachelor of Business Administration with Entrepreneurship.
Speaking during the presentation, the President challenged the institution to uphold high academic standards, strengthen its research capacity, and ensure its scholarship delivers practical, society-benefiting solutions. The recognition forms part of a wider expansion of higher education across Nyanza — during the same tour, Ruto also conferred a full university charter on Uzima University in Kisumu.
For Kamagambo, the elevation affirms more than a century of wholistic Christian education — nurturing learners mentally, spiritually, physically, and socially — and opens a new chapter as a full university serving students across Kenya and beyond. Kamagambo University operates under a Letter of Interim Authority, granted on 15 September 2026 on the advice of the Commission for University Education (CUE). An LIA authorises an institution to operate as a university while it works toward a full charter, so Kamagambo is not yet fully chartered. Prospective students can verify current status directly with CUE.
Three approved degree programmes — the Bachelor of Education in Arts, the Bachelor of Arts in Theology with Entrepreneurship, and the Bachelor of Business Administration with Entrepreneurship — alongside diploma and certificate programmes in teacher education, business and theology.
Degree programmes require a KCSE mean grade of C+ (C plain for theology), diplomas require C−, and certificates require D+. Equivalent qualifications are assessed case by case.
Regular intakes run in January, May and September. In-service intakes for working students run in April, September and November. Apply at least four weeks before your chosen intake.
Indicative degree tuition is published on the fee structure page, with diploma and certificate fees lower than degree fees. The Registrar confirms the exact fee for your programme in your offer letter.

Applications open for the January 2027 intake
Applications are now open for the January 2027 regular intake across all three degree programmes. Entry is KCSE C+ with C in English and Mathematics for the Bachelor of Education in Arts (KSh 78,000 a year), C plain for the Bachelor of Arts in Theology with Entrepreneurship (KSh 72,000 a year), and C+ with C in Mathematics and English for the Bachelor of Business Administration with Entrepreneurship (KSh 82,000 a year). Apply at least four weeks before the intake begins.

Kamagambo University is led by Prof. Rei Towet Kesis, Founding Principal and Vice-Chancellor. His bio: an ordained Seventh-day Adventist minister and former Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton, and a published author. The institution itself brings more than 114 years of experience in education on this site, having begun Adventist educational work in 1912 and teacher training in 1928.
