Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees holds the property and assets of Kamagambo University in trust for the institution and its sponsoring church. Where the University Council governs and the Administrative Board manages, the Trustees safeguard — ensuring that land, buildings, endowments and bequests are held, used and protected for the purposes for which they were given.

Responsibilities

• Custody of assets. Holding title to University land and buildings, including the historic Kamagambo Mission campus, on behalf of the institution.
• Fiduciary duty. Ensuring assets are applied only to the University’s educational and mission purposes.
• Endowments, gifts and bequests. Receiving and administering donations and legacies according to the terms on which they were made.
• Major transactions. Approving the acquisition, disposal or encumbrance of University property.
• Legal standing. Representing the institution in matters concerning its property and trusts.
• Long-term stewardship. Protecting the institution’s endowment across generations, not just the current budget year.

Why a separate board

Separating custody of assets from day-to-day management is ordinary good governance: it means no single body both spends the money and guards the property. For an institution whose land has been held for the work of education since 1912, that separation protects a century of accumulated trust.
